National Monument Malaysia (Tugu Negara)

Let’s explore the history of our independence heroes at National Monuments!

The National Monument was completed on February 8, 1966 in honor of the more than 11,000 soldiers who died during the 12 years period of Malayan Emergency (1948 to 1960). The National Monument was once blown up by communist terrorists in August 1975, as a result there was considerable damage to the monument statue. The police investigation had concluded that there were two bombs found in the incident and some traces of blood which were believed to belong to terrorists.

The National Monument is currently located near the Parliament Building in Kuala Lumpur. For your information, The National Monument is also the tallest freestanding bronze sculpture grouping. Besides that, The National Monument is surrounded by a beautiful human made fountain and ornamental pewter lilies.

Besides that, you can also visit another statue in Tugu Negara, Cenotaph. It is built prior to The National Monument and to honour those from the British Malayan colonies who were killed during the Great War (1914 - 1918) and World War II (1939 - 1945).

It is made of a concrete pillar. It was located in front of KTM Kuala Lumpur (next to the National Mosque) before being moved to its current location (National Monument complex) in 1964.

Before you leave, remember to take some good photos with a beautiful panorama feature.
