Islamic Art Museum Malaysia

Islamic Art Museum Malaysia is the largest museum in the Southeast Asian region since its opening in December 1998. It is located in Jalan Perdana, Tasik Perdana, Kuala Lumpur and it takes less than 5 minutes walking distance from the National Mosque of Malaysia.

There are 12 galleries that you can explore during the visit such as Architecture Gallery, Qur’an & Manuscript Gallery, India Gallery, China Gallery, Malay World Gallery, Jewellery Gallery, Textile Gallery, Arms & Armour Gallery, Coin & Seal Gallery, Metalwork Gallery, Lifestyle Gallery and Ceramics Gallery. The Architecture Gallery is a must to be visited as the earliest expression of Islamic Art is through Architecture. At this Gallery, there are many different collections of building scale models ranging from mosque to room and mosques are the highest demonstration of all.

Another highlight in the Architecture Gallery is the Standard Chartered Ottoman Room (Damascus Room). It was built in 1235 AH (1820-21 AD). It represents the luxury life in Syria and the highlight is the internal decoration of the room. This room is intended for usage to entertain or welcome guests.

Besides that, the Scholar’s Library of Islamic Art Museum Malaysia is a research facility. It has 3 types of collections sections to support its research on Islamic art, culture and civilisation. The collections include books, print journals, reference items and audio-visual materials. These collections are then separated into 3 sections such as Open Collections, Special Collections and Reference Collection.
