Orchid and Hibiscus Garden

The Orchid & Hibiscus Gardens form part of the Botanical Garden, a relaxing place to enjoy exotic tropical blooms amid lush, landscaped gardens. It is a genuine paradise of beautiful flowers, featuring an amazingly varied collection of the most beautiful tropical flowers that exist anywhere in the world.

The Orchid Garden is located opposite of the KL Bird Park within the scenic KL Lake Gardens. It only takes a few minutes to drive from the hectic heart of the city. Walking through the Kuala Lumpur Orchid Garden will lead you to the Hibiscus Garden where Malaysia's national flower, the Hibiscus or Bunga Raya is showcased.

The Orchid Garden houses up to 120 genera species of orchids 5000 hybrid. The garden comprises a semi circle pergola for the climbing and epiphytic variety and a rock garden for the terrestrial variety. You can also choose to buy pots of orchids back home, cut plants or orchids in bottles at reasonable prices. The price range differs with the species but they are around RM30 to RM40 per pot. There are two basic types of orchids, the Epiphytic Orchids and the Terrestrial Orchids. The Epiphytic Orchids take root on trees and rocks above ground level and feed on dead plant matter and the moisture which collects in the nooks and crannies of their hosts while the Terrestrial Orchids usually grow at ground level and are rooted in the soil.

The Hibiscus Garden showcases the various species of Malaysia’s national flower, the Bunga Raya (Hibiscus Rosa Sinensis). The Hibiscus Fountain is a clear marking to indicate that you are now situated in the Hibiscus Garden. This Hibiscus has much greater importance for local residents because it is an official national symbol of Malaysia: its five petals symbolize the five basic commandments of Islam (most Malaysians are Muslim). Due to the weight pressure, these hibiscus species are always situated at the bend towards down position.
