Ikan Bakar OR Grilled Fish

The direct translation of Ikan Bakar means "burned fish." You should not let the translation turn you off as it is a Malaysian dish that consists of charcoal-grilled fish or other forms of seafood. By the name (charcoal-grilled fish) itself, it is misleading because the fish is not charcoal-grilled. Instead, it is cooked on grill pans or hot plates.

The fish or seafood will be marinated in the Sambal, and placed/wrapped on/in a banana leaf and grilled over an open flame, and occasionally will be splashed with secret and homemade red chili sauce on top as they are roasted. The Ikan Bakar is usually served with a tangy & spicy soy sauce or Tamarind dipping sauce.

Where to get it:

One of the popular restaurants that serves Ikan Bakar is located at Jalan Bellamy (Bellamy Road). Along this road, there are many grilled fish stalls. The selected one are Gerai Seri Menanti and Ikan Bakar Seri Melaka.

If you are using a GrabCar, it will take around 8 minutes from InnB Park Hotel.

When you arrive at the destination, you will be surrounded by the cloud of heavy smoke with seafood aroma, thus enticing your appetite.

Price:

The average price of Ikan Bakar is RM15.00 or more, depending on the season and the demand. Should the season is Monsun (Heavy Rain or Frequent Rain), generally most seafood will be highly priced.
