Dataran Merdeka or Merdeka Square or Independence Square is one of Kuala Lumpur’s City attractions you have to visit. It is located at Jalan Raja and in front of Sultan Abdul Samad Building. Nearby attractions around Dataran Merdeka include Royal Selangor Club, St. Mary’s Church and National Textiles Museum.
There is a flagpole which displays a Malaysia Flag and Dataran Merdeka has been the venue to hold our annual National Day Parade (every 31st August) for many years.
Less than 3 minutes walking distance from Dataran Merdeka, you will be able to visit River of Life which is one of the projects that the local government has done. It would be best to visit in the evening or at night, as the River will be lighted up and transformed into a vibrant waterfront.
Occasionally, there will be events held at Dataran Merdeka such as music festivals, marathon events and countdown events. Should you want to join the crowd, feel free to look out for any upcoming events by following any related social media.
